We’re Looking For Some New Friends!

If you like movies, community radio, fun, or all the above, then you might be interested in taking part in Guelph’s favourite home-grown movie reviews show and podcast! We’re in the market for a one or two new co-hosts to join our rotating panel of local movie experts, and the question you need to ask yourself is, do you want to be one of them?

If case you stumbled upon this by accident, End Credits is a show on Guelph community radio, CFRU 93.3 fm. In pre-COVID times, we spend the first half of every show talking about movie news items like new trailers, casting announcements, or trends in the entertainment business, and then, after a musical break, we review a new movie.

Obviously, that was in the good old days when we were able to record our show in-person. Since the start of the pandemic, we’ve been recording the show via apps like Skype and Zoom, focusing on a longer movie review segment. Obviously, we hope to be able to record together in studio soon (not to mention seeing movies in theatres again), but for the foreseeable future, we’re still recording remotely, and reviewing the latest hits from various streaming services.

The show airs every Wednesday at 3 pm on CFRU, and it’s available for download on your favourite podcast app on Friday mornings.

What kind of person are we looking for? Well, someone who likes movies obviously. You don’t need to have experience on the radio, or as a YouTuber, or already have your own podcast, but if you do have that experience, that’s nice. To quote CFRU’s website: “No experience is required, and training in all aspects of the radio station is freely provided.”

What do we require from you? Well, as it says above, you will be part of a rotating panel of co-hosts, so you won’t have to do the show every week. We typically record on the weekend before the show airs on the following Wednesday, but exact times and days are flexible according to everyone’s schedule. Unfortunately, we can’t give you free movie passes or rentals, but we do try and let you cover the movies you’re excited and/or passionate about.

So if you would like join our team, send an email to adamadonaldson [at] gmail.com, or send us a DM through Facebook, or Twitter.

CFRU’s mandate:

CFRU aims to provide a complete service to the community. We provide access to the media to groups and individuals who would otherwise have little access through mainstream media outlets. By doing so, we reflect the diversity of the community. We engage, inform and entertain our listeners, we empower and teach our volunteers, and we support all of the great people doing cool things around Guelph. We raise awareness of community activities, events, and concerns. We introduce new ideas and perspectives. CFRU will not broadcast materials intending to subject any group or individual to hatred or contempt on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, gender and gender representation, age, real or perceived socio-economic status, mental or physical ability, sexual orientation, citizenship status, or source of income, unless necessary to provide context within a larger issue.

End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.
