This week on End Credits we put it all on the line. There’s nothing quite like a fall movie by an acclaimed filmmaker where he puts all his chips in the middle of the table (and loses his shirt?) and that’s what we get with the new dark satire Digger, which you can now see in a theatre near you. Also, we will talk about the acting chops of the film’s star before he stretches them again.
This Wednesday, October 7, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Tim Phillips will discuss:
Tom Cruise: Actor. In recent years, Tom Cruise has built himself up as the “Mayor of Movies”, a man who will risk life and limb to preserve the spectacle of the theatrical movie experience. But while Cruise has become known as the guy will jump off anything for a thrill, his 40 years as a Hollywood star have featured some fairly good performances as well. To cue up the Digger review, we will go inside the acting studio with Tom Cruise (so to speak).
REVIEW: Digger (2006). This time last year, Warner Bros. won movies with a $150 million art house movie. So let’s do it again, right? In Digger, Alejandro G. Iñárritu takes the “Mayor of Movies”, Tom Cruise, and gets him into acting mode again as Digger Rockwell, a Texas oil baron that may have finally kicked climate change past the point of no return. The movie, to put it kindly, did not do well last weekend, and it split critics down the middle, which usually indicates that this is going to be a very interesting movie to talk about. So let’s dig into Digger!
End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.
